The Red Sea International Film Festival (Red Sea IFF) has announced the film that will close this year’s event. The closing night will feature the premiere of a new movie called “Ferrari,” directed by Michael Mann. The film stars Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, and Patrick Dempsey. In addition to this, the festival has revealed the lineup of international films for its third edition, showcasing a variety of movies from well-known directors and international filmmaking icons.
“Ferrari” is set in 1957 and explores the challenges faced by former race car driver Enzo Ferrari. The story takes place against the backdrop of the intense 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia, where Ferrari’s factory is at risk of bankruptcy. The film delves into Enzo’s tumultuous marriage, the loss of his son Dino, and the difficulties he encounters in acknowledging his son Piero with Lina Lardi.
The screenplay is based on the biography “Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine” by motorsport journalist Brock Yates. “Ferrari” will have its MENA Premiere on Thursday, December 7.
Mohammed Al-Turki, CEO of the Red Sea Film Foundation, expressed his honor in presenting “Ferrari” as the Closing Night Gala. He highlighted the film’s significance, having been supported by the Red Sea International Film Financing. Al-Turki praised Michael Mann’s skill and understanding of the visionary genius behind one of the world’s most desired designs.
The International Spectacular lineup includes films such as Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla,” Ava Duvernay’s “Origin,” John Woo’s “Silent Night,” Léa Domenach’s “Bernadette (The President’s Wife),” and Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron.”
These films aim to offer new perspectives on themes like race, belonging, identity, and family. Kaleem Aftab, Director of International Programming for the Red Sea International Film Festival, described “Ferrari” as Michael Mann in overdrive, emphasizing the film’s exploration of passion, love, and business. Aftab expressed honor in featuring the works of iconic filmmakers that provide fresh perspectives on important societal themes.
