Elon Musk is like gonna start charging a “small monthly payment’ from all X users and the social media platform would not be a free place anymore soon. He talked about this idea during a live-streamed conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The reason behind this change is to tackle the problem of bots on the platform.
In a live-streamed interaction with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the X owner tossed out the idea that the social network may no longer be a free site, in a bid to deal with the problem of bots on the platform.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Musk has brought up the idea of charging users. He mentioned it last year as well. Right now, X charges $8 per month for its Premium users. These users get some extra perks like being able to edit their posts, seeing fewer ads, writing longer posts, and getting better rankings in search and conversations.
Musk also revealed that X has a massive user base of 550 million monthly users who create 100-200 million posts every day. Musk did not like disclose how many paid subscribers it currently has.
During its last public earnings in Q1 2022, Twitter had mentioned 229 million mDAUs (monetizable daily active user).
In summary, Elon Musk’s plan to charge a monthly fee for X is his solution to combat bots on the platform. This idea isn’t new, as he mentioned it last year, and it’s currently being applied to X Premium users who pay $8 per month for extra features. X boasts a massive user base of 550 million monthly users, but we don’t know how many of them are paying for the service, unlike Twitter, which had 229 million monetizable daily active users in its last earnings report.
