The Name Change

Even though we all know him as ‘The Rock,’ in a 2006 interview with Entertainment Magazine, he said he wanted to be known only by his real name. He’s a serious movie actor now and not part of the wrestling scene, so he considers ‘The Rock’ name part of his past

Wrestling was a natural choice for Johnson, given that his family has deep roots in the industry. His dad and granddad were professional wrestlers, and so were other family members, like his cousin Rodney, who became famous as Yokozuna.

Everybody loves donuts, and Dunkin’ Donuts is a legendary company in that world. They offered Johnson a deal that would’ve had a donut named after him, but he turned it down because he was worried it would make him seem too full of himself.

The Rock’ originally wanted to be a football player, not a wrestler. He was really good at it, playing as a defensive tackle and getting offers from a bunch of Division I college teams. But bad luck struck in the form of an injury that ended his NFL dreams after he briefly joined the Calgary Stampeders in 1995.
