Hey there, so Karan Johar, he made his big directorial comeback after like seven long years with the movie “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.” It had Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as the main stars and hit theaters in July this year, and let me tell you, it totally won over the audiences. The grandeur and aesthetics, those full-on Bollywood feels, we haven’t seen them in a while.
A bunch of cinephiles found the characters, Rocky and Rani, pretty relatable, and the chemistry between both the leads was, like, super well appreciated. In a recent interview, Karan Johar dropped this bombshell that the film might have taken inspiration from real-life stuff, especially the story of Bollywood’s power couple, Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna.
Twinkle Khanna, you know, she’s the daughter of those legendary actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. And her love story with Akshay Kumar, well, that started on the set of “International Khiladi,” a movie directed by Umesh Mehra. They tied the knot on January 17, 2001, and now they have a son and a daughter, Aarav and Nitara. Akshay, he’s like this super protective father, keeps the kiddos away from the limelight.
Interesting tidbit, Karan and Twinkle actually went to the same boarding school. And get this, in Karan’s debut movie back in ’98, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” he thought of Twinkle for a character named Tina. But she turned down the role, and it went to Rani Mukerji. Nonetheless, Karan and Twinkle, they still share this warm friendship.
Akshay Kumar, on the flip side, has teamed up with Karan Johar on several films. There was “Brothers” in 2015, this sports drama directed by Karan Malhotra. Then in 2019, Akshay rocked it in “Kesari,” directed by Anurag Singh.
And wait for it, he also did this romantic comedy, “Good Newwz,” in the same year. Now, in 2021, he was in Rohit Shetty’s cop-drama “Sooryavanshi” and more recently, “Selfiee,” a dramedy directed by Raj Mehta. That guy’s all over the place !
