Bathukamma Festival
This one is all about flowers and is for nine days. People put flowers in cool shapes and give yummy food. Ladies and kids wear nice clothes and sing songs while going around the flowers. At the end, they put the flowers in water to clean them.
Bonalu Festival:
Bonalu is a big deal, especially in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It’s in July or August. People give a special pot with milk, jaggery, and rice to a goddess called Mahakali. They carry these pots on their heads to say thanks.
Dussehra (Navaratri):
Dussehra is a fancy Hindu festival that’s everywhere in India. It goes on for ten days and each day is for a different goddess. People also pray to their tools for work. On the tenth day, they have a party and burn a big dummy of a bad guy.
Ganesh Chaturthi:
This one is for Lord Ganesha’s birthday. People do special things with leaves and flowers. They put Ganesha statues in water and eat special food. Traditional dishes favored by Ganesha, such as Undrallu and Modaka, are lovingly prepared and shared.
Holi:
Holi is the color party where everyone throws colors and has fun. It’s about love and friendship. In Telangana, people from different places join the party. In Telangana, this celebration becomes a grand gathering where individuals, irrespective of their backgrounds, come together to embrace the fun-filled festivities.
Sankranti:
This one is for harvest time and they love it in Telangana. They light up their houses and make pretty designs. New clothes are a must, and they fly kites too. Additionally, an international kite festival by the Telangana government lights up the skies along Hussain Sagar lake.
Diwali:
Diwali is all about lights and it’s a big show. They light up the sky with fireworks and put lamps everywhere. The moonless night transforms into a luminous spectacle with the glow of firecrackers, while diyas illuminate homes.
Ugadi:
Ugadi is like a new year for Telugu people. They make a special pickle that’s sweet, sour, and more. It’s about life being good and tough sometimes. This signifies life’s various facets, encouraging resilience during both joyous and challenging times.
Ramzan:
Ramzan is a big time for Muslims. They don’t eat from morning till night and have special food before sunrise. Halim is a tasty treat during this time. The pre-fast meal, suhur, is consumed before sunrise, and special dishes like Halim are enjoyed during this holy month.
Peerla Panduga (Muharram):
Muharram is a quiet time for Muslims. They have parades for a special guy named Imam Hussein and remember his story.
