The ICC has revealed the schedule for the ICC World Cup 2023. It’s going to happen in India from October 5 to November 19, 2023. There will be 10 teams competing. India is already in as the host, and Afghanistan, Australia, England, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa are also in because of their performance in the 2020-2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. The last two teams will be decided in the World Cup Qualifiers taking place in Zimbabwe.
Some changes were made to the schedule, especially the India-Pakistan match, due to the start of the Navratri festival. Security arrangements would have been tricky if the match stayed on its original date of October 15. The ICC and BCCI talked to the PCB about changing two group matches, including the one between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad.
The exciting India-Pakistan match that was supposed to be on October 15 in Ahmedabad might now happen on October 14.
The first match of the tournament will kick off on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The final match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will also be held at the same stadium, as announced by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
Two semi-finals are in the plan: one at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and the other at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The cricketing action will unfold in ten different venues: Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Warm-up matches are set to take place in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, in addition to Hyderabad, from September 29 to October 3.
India’s schedule for the World Cup 2023 includes matches with Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, England, Qualifier 2, South Africa, and Qualifier 1. The tournament will begin with a round-robin format, where each team plays against the others once. The top four teams will go on to the semi-finals, and the winners of those matches will compete in the final on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
