Starfield is going to get some updates soon. Bethesda, the game’s developer, plans to add Nvidia DLSS support in an upcoming update. They’ve mentioned this in a blog post where they also talk about addressing player requests and improving the game’s overall experience through regular updates.
These updates will include features like an in-game FOV slider, brightness and contrast controls, and an HDR calibration menu. Currently, players have had to edit a .ini text file to adjust the FOV slider, so this change will make things easier. But before all of this, Bethesda has released a small hotfix called version 1.7.29. It’s meant to fix some bugs, including ones that cause crashes on the Xbox Series S/X and quest-ending issues.

As of now, the PC version of Starfield doesn’t support Nvidia’s DLSS technology, which can improve game performance without sacrificing visuals. Before the game’s launch, AMD was named as the exclusive partner, so the settings only included AMD’s FSR 2.0 upscaling tech. This didn’t sit well with some players who found it made textures look fuzzy. This led to mods being created to enable DLSS. AMD later clarified that there was no reason why Bethesda couldn’t add DLSS support, and it seems like they’re finally going to do that.

Bethesda is also considering adding ‘city maps’ to the game because the current empty ones haven’t been well-received. They’re planning to include them in a future update. Additionally, they are working on support for ultra-wide 32:9 monitors and a dedicated button for quickly consuming food items in the game. Currently, eating food in Starfield is a slow process involving adding items to your inventory and opening the menu. The update will let you consume food instantly with a button press.
Bethesda has expressed their commitment to supporting the game for a long time and is actively working with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel on driver support. They plan to continuously improve stability and performance with each update. This is in response to reports of poor optimization on the PC version, which even received attention on live television. On another note, Bethesda is working on bringing official mod support to Starfield, similar to Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This will allow modders to create and share content across both PC and consoles, and it’s expected to be available in 2024.
You can play Starfield on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and Xbox Game Pass right now. Bethesda seems dedicated to making the game better over time, so player feedback is encouraged.
