Amazon Web Services (AWS) has made an agreement with ISRO and IN-SPACe to support space technology innovations using cloud computing.
This partnership with ISRO and IN-SPACe aims to provide space startups, research institutions, and students access to cloud technology through AWS Activate. The goal is to encourage the development of new solutions for the space industry. This announcement was made by AWS in a statement on Wednesday.
This collaboration follows the approval of the Indian Space Policy in April 2023, which outlines a strategic plan for the growth of India’s space program. It highlights the use of cloud computing, data, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.
Shalini Kapoor, who’s the AWS India and South Asia Director and Chief Technologist for Public Sector, says AWS is all in for helping startups find use cases, speed up solution development, and build up a talent pool in India for cloud and space expertise. “Cloud computing-led innovations help the space industry make better, quicker decisions, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. We’re excited to help Indian customers build space-tech solutions to improve life on Earth,” Kapoor added..
Sudheer Kumar N, the ISRO Director for Capacity Building and Public Outreach, says cloud computing lets them handle lots of space data quickly and run AI, ML, and analytics tasks in a cost-effective way.
Startups also get the benefit of tapping into AWS’s global experience in aerospace and satellite solutions through the AWS Space Accelerator program.
Vinod Kumar, who’s the IN-SPACe Director of Promotion Directorate, sees this partnership as a way to inspire startups, students, and researchers to think big in the space industry and contribute to the global space scene. They’re also planning to team up on teaching students and educators about cloud computing, AI, ML, analytics, and security using AWS education programs. No spelling errors here, we’re all good.
